Japan boasts myriad accommodation options designed to offer guests a truly immersive experience. Here are some of the newest and most impressive offerings from the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’
The world’s first movable galleries
Simose, located in Otake, Hiroshima Prefecture, has introduced the world’s first movable galleries as part of its expansive art complex. This unique feature includes eight brightly coloured movable gallery spaces perched atop the water, inspired by Hiroshima’s shipbuilding technology. Guests can stay overnight in one of Simose’s ten villas designed by renowned architect Shigeru Ban, with options including “Forest Villas” surrounded by trees and “Waterside Villas” overlooking the Seto Inland Sea.
A cave-like experience in Izumo
Hotel the Cliff in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, offers a distinctive experience with rooms built into the dramatic rocky cliff side, about 10 metres above the beach. Each of the eight private “cave” rooms features a private terrace with a hot tub, providing close-up views of the Sea of Japan. The Garb Cliff Terrace restaurant serves a seasonal seven-course dinner with panoramic views, enhancing the overall guest experience.
Onsen luxury in Sendai
The newly opened Hoshino Resorts KAI Akiu in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, allows guests to experience a 1,500-year-old onsen (hot spring) destination. The resort features one indoor and one outdoor onsen and a relaxing footbath.
Spacious rooms with calming blue tones reflect the nearby river, offering a serene retreat surrounded by nature.
