Ina Yulo Stuve talks to Zakzeckyte about her passion for delivering outstanding guest experiences.
When Lina Zakzeckyte got her first job in the hospitality industry, she admits that it wasn’t a walk in the park. But with her perseverance taking over, she was able to power through and embark on what has turned into a lucrative and rewarding career, even landing her a job at famed London hotel The Savoy. “Every bedroom had a different design and I memorised every detail, down to each luggage rack,” she shared.
“Over the years I moved to several other luxury London properties, worked on new openings, and started to learn about things like purchasing and labour costing. I never really thought about being a GM, but I loved the idea of being a project manager, fixing things and having the opportunity to start with a blank canvas, as we did with Hart Shoreditch,” she explains.
Hart Shoreditch is part of Hilton’s Curio Collection and has an enviable position within the capital’s lively Shoreditch neighbourhood. The heritage of the local area is celebrated throughout the property, with a light fixture created from old cabinets to gems from nearby antique shops dotted around the lobby. Communal areas where members of the local community can work and connect with one another make up the focal points of the hotel, with the team proudly embracing the hotel’s role as a hub for the artists and innovators who call Shoreditch home.
“Hart Shoreditch attracts a huge variety of guests from all walks of life – the demographic is really varied, which makes the hotel such an interesting and inspiring destination,” Zakzeckyte said. “We welcome a vibrant mix of guests, from the sharp minds of businesspeople working with cutting-edge tech firms and law offices, to curious travellers and adventurous explorers from every corner of the globe, all eager to dive into the rich, eclectic culture of East London,” she adds.
Ina Yulo Stuve speaks to the ambitious GM about her focus on organic growth and her passion for working with the local community.
Hart Shoreditch features thoughtful design elements that combine local heritage with a contemporary twist
Is there a particular business skill you’re trying to master?
I am focused on enhancing my knowledge of asset management and am exploring the possibility of studying for a diploma in this field. In my day-to-day role as general manager, I am dedicated to developing the Hart Shoreditch brand through organic growth rather than relying on artificial tactics.
My goal is to master the art of creating a connection between our brand and the core values of the hotel in a way that is authentic and resonates with both our customers and our business objectives. I want to cultivate a brand identity that feels truly genuine and trustworthy.
Do you have any advice for someone looking to explore a job in hotels?
From my perspective, the hospitality industry is often underestimated. It’s a field that allows individuals to truly discover themselves and experiment with various departments and roles in a supportive environment and I would advise anyone considering a career in hotels to be open to exploring different aspects of the industry. Whether it’s housekeeping, reception, marketing, finance, legal, or food and beverage, the opportunities in hospitality are vast and diverse.
What made you decide to join the team at Hart Shoreditch?
My decision was driven by the unique opportunity it presented: I was the first to be directly involved in all steps of the hotel’s creation, from interviewing potential team members to shaping the brand identity. I took great care in selecting inspiring individuals to join the venture, and I cherish every moment spent with the team. The experience and the opportunities that working at Hart Shoreditch has offered me since then have been truly amazing.
With East London having its fair share of unique hotels, what do you believe makes Hart Shoreditch stand out from the pack?
Our unique design story and our outstanding service is what sets us apart. Hart Shoreditch tells a one-of-a-kind story with its own character that is very much inspired by its destination. It truly celebrates the rich heritage of the surrounding area yet also provides a more contemporary outlook.
Every element of the hotel has been carefully thought through and put together with care to highlight the authentic truths of Shoreditch and its past industries. Our service is warm, welcoming, and personal. Our team shares a passion for making guests feel truly at home as they bring their own colourful personalities to inspire and create unforgettable experiences.
Hart Shoreditch is a vibrant hub within the community, and we regularly host local artists in residence and live music events, collaborating with local businesses, and supporting charity initiatives. Due to this, we do naturally attract a creative crowd, but we welcome everyone through our doors no matter where they are on their creative journey.
How do you incorporate the local community into the guest experience?
Since taking on the role of GM at Hart Shoreditch, when it opened nearly five years ago, one of my biggest aims has been to leave a positive and inspiring impact on the neighbourhood and wider community.
Championing our local entrepreneurs and being a supporter of equal opportunities for all is at the heart of all we do. I believe that having this mission from the start and being genuine and authentic with it is why we’ve been so successful.

Tell me more about your newest opening, UBA.
UBA brings tastes of Asia to London’s East End. But it’s much more than just a restaurant. Reflecting Shoreditch’s eclectic vibe, the new venue offers guests a multi-sensory celebration of Pan-Asian flavours, creative cocktails, and serious sounds, wrapped in a lively and playful package that mirrors the essence of the hotel itself. Chef Paul Greening has an amazing menu and we have exciting plans for events and DJ nights too – watch this space!
If you had to schedule a one-day itinerary for guests staying at Hart Shoreditch, where would you send them?
For a perfect one-day itinerary in East London, start with a visit to Spitalfields Market to admire the incredible craftsmanship of local artisans and small businesses, alongside the historic old silk weavers’ centre. Then, take a stroll through Victoria Park, where the weekends bring vibrant food stalls, especially on Saturdays.
On Sunday, Columbia Road Flower Market bursts into life with stunning blooms, live music, and boutique pop-ups. Brick Lane is essential, offering a taste of East London’s vibrant energy with its street art, vintage markets, world-class curry houses, and quirky boutiques.
Finally, delve into the rich history and culture of the area at Hackney Museum, where you’ll hear the fascinating stories of the people who shaped this unique part of the city.
Where are you off to on your next holiday?
For me, I’m heading to Narnia! Travel doesn’t need to be a physical location, it can be a place within yourself. Tucked up in the comfort of my own home, with a great book in hand, enjoying a fictional escape in my mind, that is what a holiday really means to me.
